Championship Vs Series

What is the difference between Championships and Series? Explained here!

We often get asked what the difference is between championships and series on SGP. While similar in the sense they both calculate points on a string of races the way they operate is different.

Championships:

  • Championships on SGP have a stricter set of rules baked into the format. What we mean by that is that you can only choose one game, one set of cars and drivers can’t change their car after the championship has started.

  • Drivers sign up to a championship and their entry is automatically applied to all the races in the respective championship. It is the drivers responsibility to manage their attendance from that point onwards by removing themselves from the championship if they are unable to race.

We typically find that communities use championships for their more serious racing. For example trying to replicate real world scenarios.

  • Currently, only championships allow for team based points scoring formats.

  • Admins need to configure for settings when setting up the championship such as cars available, difficulty and rules. These settings are applied automatically to each subsequent event in the championship.

  • Note - it is possible to edit these settings between races. For example you may wish to increase the pit window for a specific race. This is possible in the championship settings.

  • Race results are processed and championship standings are calculated and displayed in the “Standings” tab.

Series:

  • A Series on SGP is similar to a championship but is a lot more flexible both for the admins and drivers. With a series it’s possible to change the game and available cars from race to race.

  • Drivers have to enter each race individually in a series. The car choice is open so they can pick a different car from race to race.

  • We typically see series being used by communities which want a more casual approach to racing. For example you could do a Porsche Cup Series where each race is a different sim with the same car. Week 1 ACC Porsche Cup, Week 2 RaceRoom Porsche Cup… and so on.

  • It’s not currently possible to run team events using a series.

  • Each event is created individually meaning all settings must be configured for each event.

  • Race results are processed and championship standings are calculated and displayed in the “Standings” tab.
